New page

Goblins' Hewer is the Goblin King's two-handed weapon, appearing as a great-axe. It starts at +6 enchantment, with high ordinary damage and a very large weight of 500. Its name does not grant a separate anti-goblin attack.

__TOC__

Obtaining
The Goblin King appears on the final level of the Goblin Caves until that dungeon is completed. He carries a neutral +6 Goblins' Hewer, copied from the item definition and dropped with his possessions on an ordinary death. His corpse is separately required for the Duke's first nobility quest; the axe is not the requested quest item.

The axe is excluded from ordinary random-object generation. Acquirement uses a separate route that can produce it; a blessed acquirement can select it from the weapon catalogue. This preserves +6 while rolling blessing, so an acquired copy can be cursed despite positive enchantment. Its item level is 7 and base value 2,000 Au; Julie's does not sell it.

Description
Wielding requires weapon hand and ready hand, with a separate shield still usable. The initial +6 makes its equipment contributions +12 hit and 38 damage before character bonuses. Attacks use the ordinary physical routine; there is no instant-kill, racial bonus or immunity bypass attached to the name.

Tunneling uses base damage 32 and the cutting branch, with possible damage on a mishap. Throwing a spare axe does not separately add its 32 damage and +6 enchantment to the character's current throw; it normally lands afterward. A cursed axe in use resists ordinary removal and throwing.

Strategy
At equal enchantment, an ordinary great-axe has one more hit point but eight less damage and weighs only 100. The King's +6 copy is a substantial improvement over an unenchanted ordinary axe, but its extra 400 weight can cost movement speed and space for supplies. Compare actual load and enchantment, not only the named weapon's damage.

Bring home the axe and the King's corpse for different reasons: one is equipment, the other advances the Duke's quest. If the axe is too heavy for the current expedition, a lighter weapon can be the better practical choice despite lower raw damage.

Older duplication advice about two-handed weapons does not supply a current money-making method. The two hand slots refer to one item, and the current save and inventory paths preserve that shared identity; see the weapon overview's version discussion.
