A mace of disruption is a heavy one-handed weapon that destroys spirit-melee creatures and otherwise deals unstoppable damage. It appears as an ordinary mace and begins with +7 enchantment and blessing strength +7.

__TOC__

Generation
The Order of Paladins gives a fully identified mace of disruption on promotion from Guardian to Chevalier. This requires at least 1,500 Order experience and alignment at least +125. The reward copies the fixed +7 enchantment and +7 blessing.

Random treasure, pawn-shop stock and acquirement can also produce it, retaining those nonzero properties. Its item level is 7 and base value 3,000 Au; Julie's sells only the separate ordinary mace.

Disruption
A landed attack immediately kills a creature whose melee attack is the spirit type, such as a spectre, lich or vampire lord. This is a specific attack-type test, not a rule for every creature that looks undead. Other targets receive an ordinary damage roll delivered as unstoppable damage, allowing it to harm physically immune opponents.

It still has to hit. The base +10 accuracy and fixed +7 enchantment help that check; neither instant disruption nor unstoppable damage turns a miss into a hit. Normal striking attacks gain the usual Strength-based damage modifier.

Cursing changes its displayed cursed name to mace, but the special attack itself does not check blessing or alignment. Curse status still controls whether an equipped copy can be removed. Merely wielding an unknown mace produces a weight-related message rather than fully identifying it.

Other uses
Disenchantment can erase its enchantment and equipment message, but the spirit disruption and unstoppable attack remain. Losing +7 still reduces ordinary current hit and damage contributions.

A spare mace of disruption can deliver the same special attack when thrown. Its ordinary damage branch uses current character damage and the throwing Strength bonus, then it normally lands for recovery. Throwing an equipped cursed copy is refused.

It contributes 17 to tunneling, with striking avoiding the tunneling mishap's weapon-damage check. A cheap ordinary mace contributes 12 at one fifth of the weight, so the disruption mace's combat value is the stronger reason to carry it.

Strategy
The Order reward supplies a predictable counter to spirit melee and physical immunity, making the promotion useful beyond its title. Its 250 weight is a real burden for a lightly equipped character, but ordinary weapon enchantment alone cannot reproduce unstoppable damage.

Compared with Victrix, the mace has much lower base damage and lacks the spear's immunities, yet its non-spirit attacks also bypass physical immunity. Compared with Demonblade, it turns the dangerous spirit matchup into an instant-disruption opportunity without the latter's self-injury branch. Keep a reliable way to hit and enough room to survive the opponent's attacks until the blow lands.
