Omega 0.90.4

A potion of restoration repairs reductions to the player's six attributes. It restores current values toward their recorded maxima rather than increasing those maxima.[1]

Generation

Restoration is an item-level-3 ordinary potion, available as random loot, in pawn-shop stock, or through acquirement.[2][3][4][5]

Description

The six attributes are Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Agility, Intelligence and Power. In the table, C is an attribute's current value and M its recorded maximum.

Potion state Attributes affected New current value[6]
Uncursed or blessed All six Greater of C and M: restores a drain while preserving above-maximum bonuses
Cursed One, chosen uniformly Lesser of C − 1 and M − 1: may remove a large above-maximum bonus

Recorded maxima are unchanged. Neither positive blessing strength nor enchantment increases restoration, and it does not restore lost experience levels or maximum HP. The cursed name, potion of debilitation, is shared with augmentation.

Noncursed use identifies the type automatically. Cursed use does not, and the shared name does not uniquely distinguish the two potion kinds.[7]

Strategy

For the difference between repairing drained attributes and regaining lost experience levels, see Level drain.

Keep restoration for attribute loss that would otherwise weaken carrying capacity, combat or spellcasting. It can repair several drained attributes at once, and safely preserves higher current bonuses. Drinking it while all attributes are already at or above their maxima does not improve the character.

For an actual increase above existing values, augmentation has a different effect. The restoration spell provides the same repair when available. Resting for a week at Rampart Arms also resets attributes to their maxima, but that broader reset can remove above-maximum gains which this potion preserves.
