The potion of speed grants temporary haste and removes slowness. A cursed copy is a potion of slowness that slows an unhasted drinker.

Generation and appearance

It is a common level-1 random potion with a shuffled container appearance. Tasmanian devils begin with a fixed copy. Random copies begin uncursed with a generated nonnegative plus.

Data and mechanics

Each copy weighs 20, has fragility 5, a base value of 40 Au, and item level 1. Plus does not affect haste or slow duration.

Effects and interactions

BUC stateResult
BlessedClears slowness and adds 100 through 349 haste units.
UncursedClears slowness and adds 0 through 249 haste units.
CursedIf not already hasted, adds 250 through 499 slow units; otherwise reports that the feeling fades and leaves haste unchanged.

Haste halves the player's action delay, while slowness doubles it, within the game's speed limits. A noncursed copy identifies itself; a cursed copy does not. An uncursed roll of zero still clears existing slowness but may grant no haste duration.

Strategy

Blessing guarantees substantial haste and is much more reliable than the zero-to-249 uncursed range. A currently hasted player can quaff a cursed copy without gaining slowness, but the potion remains consumed and unidentified; this is not a useful reason to test unknown potions in combat.
