The scroll of light illuminates the reader's room. A cursed copy is a scroll of darkness and darkens a lit room instead.
Generation and appearance
It is a common level-0 random scroll with a per-game shuffled inscription. Murk fungi begin with this scroll in their fixed inventory. Random copies begin uncursed.
Data and mechanics
Each copy weighs 5, has fragility 1, a base value of 30 Au, and item level 0. Reading it identifies the scroll in every BUC state.
Effects and interactions
| BUC state | Result |
|---|---|
| Blessed | Lights a dark room and grants 4 units of illumination. |
| Uncursed | Lights a dark room and grants 3 units of illumination. |
| Cursed | Darkens the current room if it is lit. |
In a dark numbered room, a noncursed scroll spreads light through the room and adds illumination. In an already lit room it only reports a surrounding glow and does not extend the status. Outside a numbered room it produces a faint glimmer with no lasting effect. A cursed copy darkens a lit room; in darkness or outside a room it only prints the corresponding no-effect message.
Strategy
Use an uncursed copy only after entering a dark room, because reading it in a lit room or corridor wastes both the scroll and its possible duration. Blessing adds only one illumination unit. A cursed copy can deliberately darken a room, but it offers no benefit from blessing first.
