The potion of banishing fear immediately removes fear. A cursed copy is a potion of fear that can prevent the player from initiating melee attacks until the fear expires.
Generation and appearance
It is a common level-2 random potion with a shuffled container appearance. Random copies begin uncursed with a generated nonnegative plus.
Data and mechanics
Each copy weighs 20, has fragility 5, a base value of 50 Au, and item level 2. Blessing and plus do not improve the cure.
Effects and interactions
| BUC state | Result |
|---|---|
| Blessed | Clears fear and identifies itself; same effect as uncursed. |
| Uncursed | Clears fear and identifies itself. |
| Cursed | Without fear immunity, adds 0 through 99 fear units and does not identify itself. |
While afraid, the player cannot initiate an attack against a monster. Fear fades one unit per move and ends with “You feel bolder now.” Fear immunity makes a cursed copy harmless. A noncursed potion identifies itself even when there was no fear to clear.
Strategy
Carry an uncursed copy when fear could lock out melee, but do not bless it because the cure already sets fear to zero. A cursed roll can be zero, yet the upper range is long enough to make blind-quaffing dangerous near hostile monsters; fear immunity removes that risk.
