Omega 0.90.4

A potion of banishing fear removes current fear, allowing the player to resume actions that fear blocks. It does not grant lasting fear immunity.[1]

Generation

This item-level-2 ordinary potion can appear in random loot, pawn-shop stock, or through acquirement.[2][3][4][5]

Description

An uncursed or blessed bottle clears the fear counter if fear is present. No future protection is added, and blessing or enchantment does not strengthen the removal. The potion type becomes known even if there is no fear to remove.

A cursed bottle adds a random 0–99 fear units unless fear immunity prevents it. Fear normally decreases at minute-status updates. A roll of zero can leave no lasting fear despite the message, and cursed use does not automatically identify the type.

Fear prevents reading scrolls and initiating ordinary melee attacks. Drinking this potion is still allowed while afraid, making it a practical first step toward using a teleportation or warp escape afterward. An enemy can impose fear again if its attack or aura continues to apply.[6][7][8]

Strategy

Carry a known safe bottle in an accessible slot before confronting fear-causing opponents. Use it to reopen an escape or combat option, then deal with the source of fear rather than assuming the potion has made you immune.

Equipment that actually grants fear resistance is a preventive alternative. Heroism is a combat buff, not the same cure, and its cursed level drain is not repaired by banishing fear. There is no need to bless an already noncursed copy merely to improve the amount of fear removed.
