Dragonscale armor is fireproof body armor that can be made from dragon remains and is required for one of the Duke's quests. In the infobox, p is the individual suit's enchantment.[1]
Generation
Dragonscale armor can be found among randomly generated treasure, including the random possessions of treasure-bearing monsters, and may appear in Knight's Pawn Shop. A noncursed acquirement effect can create body armor; a blessed effect lets you select this type, but the resulting item's blessing and enchantment still follow its own generation rules.[2][3][4][5]
It is not part of Julie's fixed stock.[6]
Ambrosias can transform dragon remains during opening hours:
| Remains | Transformation fee | Armor received |
|---|---|---|
| Dragon scales | 2000 Au | Blessed +8, blessing strength 1 |
| The Dragon Lord's Hide | 4000 Au | Blessed +10, blessing strength 1 |
The ordinary dragon's normal death routine leaves scales half the time. The Dragon Lord, encountered in the Dragon's Lair, leaves its hide in that routine because it is unique; terrain or other ways of removing a monster can still prevent recovery. Transformation replaces the remains with the suit, rather than selling you an extra item.[7][8][9][10][11]
Description
Wear it in the Armor slot. Its normal-damage absorption is 6; its contribution to defense is your enchantment minus 3. These are different protections: enchantment makes you harder to hit but does not increase absorption. See Defense and protection for the damage floor, burden and attacks that bypass armor.[12][13]
The wearer gains fire immunity, including when the suit is cursed. This does not cover cold, electricity or acid.[14]
A Knight serving the Duke must hand over a suit to complete the dragonscale quest. The Duke takes it regardless of enchantment or blessing, promotes you to Lord and grants 10000 experience. This is a use of the armor, not an armor reward. He automatically takes the first matching suit in accessible inventory, checking the backpack afterward; there is no item-selection prompt.[15]
The type's visible name does not reveal every copy's enchantment or curse. Its magical power can also be stripped by a mundanity effect without changing that name; being blessed is not a guarantee against every way of losing protection.[16][17]
Strategy
Separate the value of the suit as equipment from its value as a quest item. Alchemy produces a strongly enchanted, blessed suit, but an inferior copy can satisfy the Duke. Move your better suit out of your carried inventory before delivering the spare: leaving the spare in the backpack while wearing the good suit can cause the Duke to take the good one. Fire immunity is useful against a dragon's flame component, but its physical hit still needs absorption and defense. Mithril plate offers more physical absorption at less weight, while prismatrix additionally covers cold and electricity.
Compare all body armor and shields when assembling your defenses.
