| Cursed name | potion of levitation |
The potion of levitation grants temporary controlled floating that bypasses many floor-triggered effects and the usual overloaded-movement check. It has no effect while mounted or when cursed.
Generation and appearance
It is a common level-1 random potion with a shuffled container appearance. Floating eyes begin with fixed copies. Random copies begin uncursed with a generated nonnegative plus.
Data and mechanics
Each copy weighs 20, has fragility 5, a base value of 50 Au, and item level 1. Plus does not affect duration. Every BUC state identifies itself when drunk.
Effects and interactions
| BUC state | Result |
|---|---|
| Blessed | When unmounted, adds 2 through 6 levitation units. |
| Uncursed | When unmounted, adds 1 through 5 levitation units. |
| Cursed | No effect beyond identification and consumption. |
Drinking a noncursed copy while mounted only prints a lightness-in-the-saddle message and grants no levitation. While floating, ordinary movement passes over many floor features without activating them; pressing `@` deliberately interacts with the square below. An unmounted levitating player can also move despite being overloaded.
Strategy
Dismount before drinking. Use levitation to cross known hazardous floor features or move while overloaded, but do not assume every square is harmless; press `@` only when intentionally interacting with the feature below. Blessing raises both minimum and maximum duration by one, while cursed copies are harmless but wasted.
Trivial
Levitation is a common fantasy-magic effect; no more specific cultural reference is known.
