A behemoth is a slow but hard-hitting swimming monster. Its gonads can either raise current strength when eaten or be made into a ring of strength.[2]
Generation
Behemoths belong to ordinary random-monster pools and begin without possessions. They are hostile, can swim and have no feeding or greedy-gift response.[3]
Description
A behemoth makes one high physical attack, for a raw 0–119 damage, and has two defenses at random heights. It is immune to electricity, but not physical damage or sleep. Its movement interval of 15 makes it much slower than most high-level monsters.[4]
It has no ranged attack. Its distant shaking and rumbling messages do not themselves cause an earthquake, damage the player or alter terrain.[5]
Gonads
Normal death has a 50% chance to leave the behemoth's gonads. Eating them raises current strength to at least maximum strength plus 10 and sets food to 24. It does not increase maximum strength; repeated meals do not repeatedly add ten to an already elevated current value.[6]
Ambrosias instead buys the remains for 16 Au or charges 100 Au to transform the selected stack into one blessed +7 ring of strength. Wearing that noncursed ring adds eight current strength, and removing it subtracts the same bonus. Its enchantment affects the strength bonus, unlike resistance rings whose immunity does not scale with enchantment.[7]
Strategy
Its slow interval gives time to attack from a distance or prepare a disabling effect. Electricity wastes that opportunity. In melee, a single high blow can still inflict severe damage, despite its low defense and slow movement.
Choose between the immediate strength floor from eating the remains and the removable equipment bonus from alchemy. Eating does not build a higher maximum attribute, and additional gonads have little eating benefit while current strength already exceeds the threshold.
