The potion of invisibility grants temporary invisibility that disrupts several monster movement routines. A cursed copy is a potion of aggravation and instead applies the narrowly implemented vulnerability status.

Generation and appearance

It is a common level-2 random potion with a shuffled container appearance. Transparent nasties begin with fixed copies. Random copies begin uncursed with a generated nonnegative plus.

Data and mechanics

It is object ID 76 and potion ID 10, with weight 20, fragility 5, base value 100 Au, and item level 2. Plus does not affect duration.

Effects and interactions

BUC stateResult
BlessedAdds 7 invisibility units and identifies itself.
UncursedAdds 2 invisibility units and identifies itself.
CursedAdds 1 through 10 vulnerability units and does not identify itself.

While invisible, several monster AI movement functions switch to random movement or decline their usual direct movement toward the player. The status does not make the player universally untargetable. Vulnerability is consumed only by the night-gaunt special in this source tree, where it guarantees the grab-and-teleport condition instead of the normal one-in-five roll.

Strategy

Use invisibility before crossing monster-controlled space, but do not assume every attack or special is disabled. Blessing increases duration from 2 to 7. Avoid testing unknown copies near night gaunts, because cursed vulnerability guarantees their abduction check while it lasts.

Trivial

No reliable creator statement tying this generic potion name to a particular cultural source was found.
