A potion of restoration repairs reductions to the player's six attributes. It restores current values toward their recorded maxima rather than increasing those maxima.
Generation
Restoration is an item-level-3 ordinary potion, available as random loot, in pawn-shop stock, or through acquirement.
Description
An uncursed or blessed potion raises each of Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Agility, Intelligence and Power to at least its corresponding maximum. A current value already above that maximum is preserved. Neither positive blessing strength nor enchantment increases this restoration, and it does not restore lost experience levels or maximum HP.
A cursed potion selects one of the six attributes with equal probability. That current attribute becomes the lesser of its current value minus one and its maximum minus one. This can remove a large above-maximum bonus, not merely subtract one point from the displayed value. The maximum itself is unchanged. Its cursed name, potion of debilitation, is shared with augmentation.
Noncursed use identifies the type automatically. Cursed use does not, and the shared name does not uniquely distinguish the two potion kinds.
Strategy
Keep restoration for attribute loss that would otherwise weaken carrying capacity, combat or spellcasting. It can repair several drained attributes at once, and safely preserves higher current bonuses. Drinking it while all attributes are already at or above their maxima does not improve the character.
For an actual increase above existing values, augmentation has a different effect. The restoration spell provides the same repair when available. Resting for a week at Rampart Arms also resets attributes to their maxima, but that broader reset can remove above-maximum gains which this potion preserves.
