Draft:Temple of Hecate
The Temple of Hecate stands at (19, 46) in LOCUS's southern swamp. Its ebony-and-ivory exterior leads to the Church of the Far Side; the travel menu calls the same destination the Temple of the Hidden Moon. Its high priest carries the rival symbol sought by Athena's followers.[1]
Approach and interior
The swamp approach is distinct from the city altar in the Pantheon. Inside, use the shared temple layout: arrival and exits at the south, altar at (32, 3), hidden passage at (30-31, 2), and the high priest at (6, 2).[2]
Hecate's followers start with a nonhostile population; others do not receive that protection. Dara is the supplied first high priest, a spellcaster. Five fixed militant priests and 27 random-site selections accompany the priest, rather than a fixed roster of identical guards on every visit.[3]
Altar and succession
| Goal | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Initial admission to Hecate | Negative alignment and no existing priesthood |
| Become High Priest of Hecate | Qualified Senior Priest with Athena's symbol, praying at a Hecate altar |
| Athena's or Druidism's symbol quest | The resident priest's Symbol of Hecate is a valid target |
The paired rival destination is the Parthenon. The full succession rules distinguish obtaining a symbol, meeting the rank and level threshold, and authorizing the offered symbol at promotion.[4]
Strategy and return
Plan the swamp route and hostile interior separately. If the goal is routine admission, the Rampart altar avoids this expedition. If the goal is Dara's symbol, simply reaching the priest does not remove the danger from spells or nearby guards, and activating a stolen symbol before authorization can be disastrous.
Exit through the southern boundary to return to LOCUS. Re-entering reconstructs the scene, with the usual exception for a player who already holds a recorded high-priest office.[5]
