The Holy Symbol of Odin is the Silver Gallows artifact carried by the High Priest of Odin. An authorized copy gives an Odin follower reusable healing, cleansing and mana recovery. A copy taken from the priest is instead a promotion object for Set or Druidism and is unsafe to activate after identification.[1]

Generation

The predictable source is the priest at the Temple of Odin. The same office can appear in mansions, wilderness encounters or randomly selected historical-NPC summons. Each newly generated priest receives a symbol even if another copy has already been obtained; this does not make an emptied existing priest produce another. Normal death drops possessions, while a successful ordinary theft takes the first carried object, usually the symbol before other loot has been acquired.[2]

The symbol is initially excluded from ordinary random loot, normal acquirement and automatically generated pawn-shop stock. An authorized Odin symbol is normally obtained by converting a Symbol of Set through Odin's final priesthood promotion, not by identifying or blessing the priest's own silver gallows.[3]

Promotion routes

Goal Required action
Become High Priest of Odin As an eligible Odin Senior Priest, carry Set's symbol and pray at an Odin altar; it becomes an authorized Odin symbol
Use this symbol for another faith An eligible Set or Druid Senior Priest can offer Odin's symbol through prayer; it becomes an authorized symbol of that patron

Carry the object in inventory or the pack and choose Pray, not the altar's separate Sacrifice command. Eligibility includes exceeding your own incumbent's recorded level; Odin also requires positive alignment. The full rank requirements are separate from obtaining the item. The selected object is replaced with one symbol, so separate any stacked offerings and keep a copy you want to preserve outside carried inventory.[4]

Activation

Use A → a from accessible inventory only with an identified, authorized copy while Odin is your current patron. Blessing does not authorize a stolen symbol. Successful use costs no mana or charge: it heals up to 100 HP, removes blindness, poison and disease, uncurses equipped items, and raises mana to at least its normal maximum. It does not necessarily fill HP or uncurse every item in the pack.[5]

All six holy symbols share one last-use 24-hour clock-hour marker. Reusing one at that same hour shatters a symbol and leaves 1 HP, even on another date if no intervening use changed the marker. A spare is not an extra hourly charge. A known unauthorized or wrong-patron copy can destroy accessible possessions, drain mana and reduce HP to 1; an unknown copy doing nothing does not prove safety. See Handling the symbol for the full conditions.[6]

Strategy

For Set or Druid advancement, preserve the acquired gallows as an offering rather than trying to use it for recovery. For Odin advancement, seek Set's symbol instead. Theft moves alignment one point toward Chaos, so leave enough positive alignment for the later Odin prayer.

Keep an authorized copy available when its hour permits use, and retain another recovery option for the intervening period. Ordinary prayer after becoming High Priest does not automatically replace a lost symbol. Artifact enchantment can restore a stripped activation power, but cannot grant authorization or reset the shared hour.[7]
