A cloak of skill is a cloak that gives a working +20 hit bonus when worn noncursed. Unlike the potion of accuracy, its initial combat benefit works in Omega 0.90.4. Its duration has a separate defect: the bonus can count down even while the cloak remains equipped.[1]
Generation
This is a repeatable item-level-5 cloak. It can occur in random loot or monster possessions, at the pawn shop, or through acquirement. Ordinary copies begin at +0 with a shuffled cloak appearance and separate blessing roll.[2]
Accuracy and duration
Wearing a noncursed cloak adds the equipment accuracy duration and identifies its type. Any remaining working accuracy grants +20 hit; it does not add 20 damage, defense or tactical maneuvers. More enchantment or stronger positive blessing does not enlarge that hit bonus, and multiple active accuracy sources do not multiply it.[3]
Unlike the ordinary sustained cloak statuses, this accuracy checks a different accuracy effect to decide whether to count down. When that other effect is below the sustained threshold, the cloak's newly supplied bonus lasts 1,500 ten-minute status updates, nominally 250 game hours, even if still worn. This is a count of actual status updates, not a guarantee that every service which skips clock time runs all of them. Once the bonus expires, removing and re-equipping a noncursed cloak supplies it again.[4]
A cursed cloak instead subtracts 1,500 updates' worth of working accuracy, clamped at zero. Removal also subtracts that amount. It does not create a negative hit penalty below the loss of the existing +20 benefit, but it can erase accuracy supplied by other equipment. The cursed copy keeps the name cloak of skill and becomes stuck under the usual equipment rules.[5]
Strategy
The flat hit bonus is valuable when attacks otherwise miss frequently. Compare the displayed hit value after equipping, and reassess after a long expedition rather than assuming a worn cloak must still supply its original bonus. At very favorable hit scores, the ordinary hit check still has a natural miss, so additional accuracy cannot guarantee every blow.[6]
Skill competes with protective cloaks for the same slot. If you already hit reliably, negative-energy immunity, true sight or protection may address a more pressing danger. Extra pluses do not improve its +20, so enchanting it for accuracy alone spends resources without increasing the main benefit.
