An anteater is a normally peaceful animal, displayed as a brown a. It can swim, has little offensive accuracy, and leaves edible roast loin of anteater.[2]
Generation
Anteaters occur in ordinary random-monster pools and are explicitly included in jungle encounters. An ordinary anteater starts without possessions.[3]
Behavior and remains
A peaceful anteater does not normally pursue you. If made hostile, it can move toward you, cross water and attempt one low physical attack, without a block. Its zero hit score is a low accuracy score, not a guarantee that attacks can never connect. It has no special attack or innate damage immunity. With one to four HP left, its next normal pursuit movement triggers retreat and shortens its base interval from four to two ticks.[4]
A normal death has a 50% chance to leave its roast loin. This is ordinary food, adding six food-reserve points; normal hourly hunger checks consume one. It has no alchemical transformation. The living anteater is not initially hungry, so it does not accept ordinary food as a pacifying meal.[5]
Strategy
An anteater is less threatening than an initially hostile jungle predator, and leaving it alone preserves that advantage. Its 20 HP can make hunting it take more attacks than a rabbit, although the eventual meal has the same nutrition. Its name does not give it a special ant-control ability: it has only the ordinary physical attack listed in the card, not an action that destroys nearby giant soldier ants.[6]
