A salamander is a hostile fire attacker and a fixed early Coliseum opponent. Its scales provide an inexpensive alchemical source of fire immunity.[2]
Generation
Salamanders belong to ordinary random-monster pools and carry no ordinary possessions. The fixed Coliseum sequence selects one after the apprentice ninja, with the following stronger attributes. Its normal death is guaranteed to leave remains; the ordinary creature has a 50% chance.[3]
| Form | HP | Hit | Damage per successful attack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ordinary | 35 | 15 | 0–29 fire |
| Fixed arena opponent | 65 | 30 | 0–44 fire |
Fire attacks and gifts
The salamander makes two middle attacks per melee sequence, both fire damage rather than physical damage. It has no defensive action or ranged attack. Its movement flutters unpredictably, but it has no flying status. It is immune to fire and has no other innate immunity.[4]
Its greedy response accepts a gift worth at least 300 Au, including cash, to remove hostility. The threshold is the value of the current gift, not accumulated gifts. Ordinary food goes through this valuable-gift response; it is not hungry and has no separate feeding response.[5]
Scales
Salamander scales are inedible. Ambrosias charges 100 Au to convert the selected stack into one blessed +3 ring of fire resistance, or pays 16 Au for the remains. Wearing the ring gives fire immunity; its +3 does not make that immunity stronger.[6]
Strategy
Fire immunity directly answers both melee attacks, while ordinary armor absorption does not replace it. Sleep and other disabling effects are not blocked by innate immunity. The arena specimen has almost twice the ordinary HP and a higher fire-damage ceiling, so prepare for that version before accepting the bout.
Keeping the scales can provide protection against later fire creatures for less cash than pacifying another salamander. The ring cannot protect you retroactively during the fight that produces its material.
