An acid cloud is a normally peaceful flying creature. Once hostile, it can both strike physically and corrode the player's worn equipment; acid immunity protects HP but does not stop the equipment-damage call.[2]
Generation
Acid clouds belong to ordinary random-monster pools and the dedicated sewer selection. They carry no ordinary possessions and start without hostility.[3]
Corrosion
When hostile and within two squares, the cloud's special action invokes acid exposure. The usual awake and special-action checks still apply. The result depends on worn equipment:[4]
| Worn equipment | Result |
|---|---|
| Cloak | Attempts to damage the cloak; 3 acid damage |
| Body armor, without a cloak | Attempts to damage the armor; 3 acid damage |
| Neither | 25 acid damage |
Acid immunity prevents the HP damage, but a worn cloak or armor still undergoes its damage check. That check can spare it, reduce positive enchantment or destroy an item, depending on its properties and the random result. Wearing a cloak directs corrosion away from body armor rather than cancelling corrosion.[5]
The cloud has one melee attack for a raw 0–49 physical damage, no defense and no ranged attack. Its hostile movement retreats rather than pursuing. It is immune to poison and sleep, but not acid, fire, cold or electricity. It has no food or valuable-gift pacification response.[6]
Remains and strategy
Half of normal deaths leave an acid pool as a monster remain. It is inedible and has no alchemical transformation; the remain is not newly created acid-cloud terrain.[7]
Leaving a peaceful cloud alone avoids both attacks. If fighting one, its 10 HP favors a quick finish over repeatedly approaching a retreating corrosive enemy. Do not assume acid immunity makes valuable worn equipment safe. Removing protection merely to avoid corrosion exposes an unprotected player to the larger bare-skin acid hit, so assess the complete equipment and immunity state first.
