A demon prince is a fast, durable demon with three physical lunges, strong defenses and spellcasting. It carries a deeply cursed Demonblade. The Circle also uses a version with a different special response.[2]
Generation
Demon princes occur in ordinary random pools, the deep Astral Plane, the Volcano and fixed Circle positions. The Prime Sorceror can summon four, and a Circle siren attempts three. Summoned creatures need free floor beside the player.[3]
A normal demon prince carries a +8 Demonblade with blessing -8, plus zero through four random possessions. It is hostile unless a particular encounter changes that state; Circle membership makes the fixed defenders initially peaceful.[4]
Description
It makes three physical lunges, one each low, center and high, with raw damage 0–79 each, and has six defenses. Its Demonblade does not add the player's life-stealing weapon effect to these attacks. It flies, opens doors and is immune to fire, poison, fear, sleep and magic damage, but not ordinary physical damage, cold or electricity. Its assigned ranged action does not execute a normal distant physical melee strike.[5]
An ordinary prince's demonic action can cause fear or attempt level-9 spellcasting, including disintegration. Fear immunity blocks the fear branch, which cannot newly frighten players of level 19 or higher. At 2–44 HP it reduces itself to 1 HP and attempts to summon two hostile inner circle demons beside the player, even if it was peaceful.[6]
The fixed Circle version replaces this demonic action with the court's collective retaliation. Once triggered by a hostile participant, the group immediately casts spells and the prince then keeps ordinary individual spellcasting. It no longer has the ordinary prince's low-health summoning special.[7]
Remains and strategy
Normal death has a 50% chance to leave a poisonous corpse with no alchemical use. Recovering the Demonblade is possible through normal item drops, but its -8 curse and berserk effect warrant preparation before wielding it.[8]
Fire protection does not stop this demon's physical lunges. Cold and electricity avoid its elemental immunity, while the spell list requires broader preparation than a single resistance. Finish an ordinary prince decisively when badly wounded; in the Circle, prioritize the risk of group spellcasting instead of expecting the same low-health response.
