A triton is a swimming spellcaster with three physical attacks and a fixed trident. It is among the special inhabitants of the Rampart Sewers.[2]
Generation
Tritons occur in ordinary random pools and the sewers' special table. They begin hostile, carrying a neutral +0 trident and zero through two extra random possessions.[3]
Description
A triton makes three physical attacks, raw damage 0–29 each, and has two defenses. It swims and opens doors. Sleep is its only innate immunity; it is not physically immune or intangible.[4]
Its nearby special action attempts level-6 spellcasting, using thirteen possible choices through dispelling. It requires hostility and sight and is subject to the shared magical resistance and counterspell checks. The triton has no separate ranged attack or dedicated mana-drain special.[5]
Remains and strategy
Normal death drops its carried items and has a 50% chance to leave an inedible corpse. The corpse has no alchemical use; the trident is ordinary equipment loot.[6]
Closing distance does not remove the threat, since three physical attacks supplement its spellcasting. Water is not a reliable movement barrier. Physical and elemental damage avoid its sole sleep immunity; prepare for the broader spell list rather than treating the creature as only a mana-drainer.
