Omega 0.90.4

A rod of apportation retrieves objects from a selected ground square. Its cursed form, the rod of lossage, instead removes randomly selected possessions from its user. It does not steal an item directly from a living monster.[1]

Generation

This item-level-2 random wand normally has 1–20 charges, random blessing and +0 enchantment. It can occur in random loot, pawn-shop stock and acquirement. Enchantment does not change its pickup range or capacity.[2]

Description

Every charged activation spends one charge and reveals the type before resolving its effect. Ordinary and positively blessed copies behave alike.[3]

State Behavior
Noncursed Select a ground square, then answer pickup prompts for its objects; refused items stay there
Cursed, magnitude C Makes C random selections from accessible possessions, attempting to drop and remove each selected whole object stack at the user's square

The ordinary effect has no distance, projectile-path or line-of-sight check of its own. It invokes the usual pickup handling at the selected coordinates, including inventory or pack handling; it does not move the player onto that terrain. An empty square costs the charge anyway. A ground object under a creature is eligible, but the creature's carried possessions are not.[4]

Cancel before choosing the rod when possible. Escape from the targeting prompt is not checked before this effect accesses the square. Declining all of the later pickup offers also does not refund the charge.[5]

The cursed item-loss path is unreliable in this version: it places an object on the ground and then disposes of that same object. Source review identifies an invalid-object risk, so do not count on recovering everything safely afterward. The runtime outcome has not been established by gameplay testing.[6]

Strategy

Use apportation to recover reachable-by-cursor loot without walking onto dangerous terrain or through a nearby enemy. It can collect goods dropped by a frightened creature or a killed thief, but pickpocketing is a different way to take possessions before they reach the ground.

Check curse status before using an unfamiliar rod. Blessing an ordinary copy gives no stronger pickup effect, and the cursed version is not a dependable shortcut for dropping or storing equipment. Bring enough carrying capacity: moving objects at a distance does not remove inventory constraints.
