Curing is a spell for disease, poison and blindness. It removes disease and blindness outright, but one cast may only reduce a serious poisoning.[1]
Learning
Druid followers learn curing on promotion to Acolyte at 400 priesthood XP. Hecate teaches it on promotion to Priest at 1,500. These promotions require the preceding rank and the appropriate alignment.[2]
It is also available through the common random research and Knowledge-wish pools, or identified Kolwynia.[3]
Effects
A cast costs an initial 20 mana and treats all three conditions together.[1]
| Condition | Result |
|---|---|
| Disease | Removed completely |
| Poison | Removes five remaining poison updates; clears poisoning if five or fewer remained |
| Blindness | Removed completely |
| Lost HP or reduced attributes | Not restored |
Poison normally deals 3 poison damage per minute-status update, subject to immunity. Curing prevents the removed updates; it does not refund damage already taken. The message distinguishes poison that has merely been reduced from poison that has been purged.[4]
The spell uses the ordinary, unblessed curing effect. A positively blessed potion of curing removes more poison per use: five plus ten times its blessing strength. Knowing the spell does not make those stronger bottles redundant.[5]
Strategy
Treat poisoning before spending repeatedly on healing: continuing poison can undo the HP recovery. After casting, read the result rather than assuming that all poison has gone. A badly poisoned character may need several casts or a stronger potion.
For blindness alone, healing costs less initially and can restore HP at the same time. Curing earns its higher cost when disease or poison also needs attention. Neither spell replaces restoration after attribute loss.
