Restoration is a spell that repairs reductions in your six attributes. It restores each deficient attribute to its currently recorded maximum while preserving values already above that maximum.[1]
Learning
Odin teaches restoration on reaching High Priest. This requires Senior Priest rank, a character level above the incumbent's, and completion of the high-priesthood requirement; it is not simply another fixed XP promotion.[2]
Earlier access can come through the common random research and Knowledge-wish pools. Identified Kolwynia also teaches it.[3]
Effects
For an initial 20 mana, restoration checks Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, Agility, Intelligence and Power together. An attribute at 8/15 becomes 15/15; one at 18/15 remains 18/15. It does not raise the recorded maxima, restore lost character levels, heal HP, refill current mana or remove disease and poison. Combat statistics are recalculated after the attributes are restored.[1]
The distinction between current and maximum values matters: if another effect has permanently reduced an attribute's maximum as well, restoration only reaches that new, lower maximum. Its scope is the current deficit, not every past injury to the character.
Strategy
Check the current/maximum pairs on the status display before spending mana. One cast can repair several reduced attributes at once, so it is useful after surviving an encounter that has damaged multiple statistics. Casting while all six are already at or above their maxima provides no attribute increase.
Use healing for wounds and curing for disease or poison. Restoring Power repairs the attribute used in ordinary mana capacity, but does not itself supply the mana needed for further spells; plan a separate refill.[4]
