The potion of breathing grants temporary magical breathing that prevents ordinary drowning and poison-cloud inhalation. A cursed copy is a potion of choking that deals 50 unstoppable damage.
Generation and appearance
It is a common level-2 random potion with a shuffled container appearance. Random copies begin uncursed with a generated nonnegative plus.
Data and mechanics
Each copy weighs 20, has fragility 5, a base value of 30 Au, and item level 2. Plus does not affect duration or cursed damage.
Effects and interactions
| BUC state | Result |
|---|---|
| Blessed | Adds 7 breathing units and identifies itself. |
| Uncursed | Adds 6 breathing units and identifies itself. |
| Cursed | Deals 50 unstoppable drowning damage and does not identify itself. |
While magical breathing lasts, ordinary submersion no longer forces the player to shed inventory or risk drowning. It also prevents poisoning from an automatum minor's poison cloud. Acidic fluid remains dangerous and is not made safe by breathing.
Strategy
Drink a verified noncursed copy immediately before underwater travel or poison-cloud exposure; blessing adds only one unit. It does not protect against every liquid hazard: the water station can still reduce the player to 1 HP. A cursed test costs a fixed 50 HP.
Trivial
Breathing and choking form a direct beneficial/cursed pair; no more specific cultural reference is known.
