The Rampart Department of Public Works provides a small welfare payment to penniless adventurers in Rampart. Despite its name, its service is a handout rather than a construction or employment menu.

Claiming a payment
Read the building's sign to discover its city-travel destination. You qualify when carrying less than 100 Au and at least seven calendar days have passed since the previous successful claim. Accept the offer and enter your character's name.
The payment sets carried money to 99 Au; it does not add 99. A character with 0 Au receives 99, one with 90 receives 9, and one with 99 receives nothing despite consuming the week's claim. Bank savings do not enter the eligibility check.
The name must match the character's name, except that the first entered lowercase letter is automatically capitalized. An empty response is rejected. A different nonempty name is treated as welfare fraud and invokes the jail procedure, which immediately expels a current Paladin.
The initial eligibility check also uses the calendar: a fresh game on the first six dates of the year is too early for a claim. It is not based simply on how many turns the new character has played.
Strategy
The handout is a modest emergency supply budget: 99 Au can buy nineteen 5 Au food rations, or cover a 25 Au meal and 50 Au healing treatment. Spend down cash that already has a useful purpose before claiming; the office only tops it back up to 99.
The bank lets you deposit surplus money while keeping carried cash below the threshold. Deposits have their own risks, and the seven-day restriction still applies. Renting a week at Rampart Arms for 1,000 Au just to become eligible for at most 99 Au is a loss; a week of recovery you already needed can also advance the welfare schedule.
