A scroll of cosmic flux rebuilds the current dungeon floor. Its effect is tied to the environment: in Rampart, the city's magicians counter it with a self-dispelling effect instead.[1]
Generation
It belongs to the item-level-5 random scroll pool, with pawn-shop stock and acquirement as additional routes.[2][3][4][5]
Description
In the current dungeon, reading forces the present depth to be generated again and repositions the player through the level-transition procedure. This replaces the floor's current terrain and contents; dropped equipment and the present arrangement of creatures are not a safe cache. The level-transition procedure also clears sanctuary.
The layout generator uses the dungeon's stored seed and depth. Rebuilding therefore does not promise an entirely different maze: the seeded structural generation can repeat, while population and stocking run again afterward. The effect is better understood as reconstructing the floor than as guaranteeing a fresh route around its geometry.
In Rampart, the Collegium Magii and Circle of Sorcerors negate the reconstruction and apply the negative dispelling effect to the player. In an environment that is neither Rampart nor the current dungeon, nothing is rebuilt. Curse and blessing do not change which environment branch is used, although only noncursed reading automatically identifies the scroll type.[6][7][8][9]
Strategy
Treat cosmic flux as a major change to the current floor, not a routine scouting action. Pick up anything you intend to keep before using it and expect the reconstructed floor to require renewed reconnaissance. Regeneration is not a promise of an easier encounter or a safer arrival.
For a predictable retreat, the warp or teleportation usually answers a narrower question. Do not test cosmic flux in Rampart while depending on temporary breathing, levitation or combat protections: the city's response can end several of them. Blessing the scroll will not bypass that response.
