The katana is a high-grade one-handed cutting weapon in Omega 0.90.4. It pairs the bastard sword's base damage 16 with a better +10 hit bonus.[1]
Generation and appearance
It is a common level-4 random weapon, so it is favored later than most one-handed swords. It can also appear in pawn-shop stock or through weapon acquirement. Every identification and BUC state uses the name katana.[2][3][4][5]
Data and mechanics
A katana weighs 50, has base damage 16, grants +10 hit, and has a base value of 500 Au. It has fragility 15 and leaves the ready hand available. Random blessed copies begin positive, uncursed copies nonnegative, and cursed copies negative.[1][3][6]
Effects and interactions
The katana's ordinary cut adds the player's Strength-based damage bonus. It can lunge, be thrown, and tunnel through walls, but it does not enable riposte. A cursed katana that has been readied cannot be put away until uncursed.[7][8][9]
Strategy
Among the ordinary one-handed cutting weapons in this batch, the katana gives the best combination of damage and hit. It is an equal-weight, equal-damage upgrade over the bastard sword and avoids the two-hand cost of a great-sword or great-axe. Its high base value also makes an unwanted copy worth identifying before sale.[10][7][8][9]
