Soft leather armor is an inexpensive early suit of body armor and the armor issued to new Legion recruits. In the infobox, p is the individual suit's enchantment.[1]
Generation
Soft leather armor can be found among randomly generated treasure, including the random possessions of treasure-bearing monsters, and may appear in Knight's Pawn Shop. A noncursed acquirement effect can create body armor; a blessed effect lets you select this type, but the resulting item's blessing and enchantment still follow its own generation rules.[2][3][4][5]
Julie's sells a fully identified, uncursed +0 suit for 20 Au.[6]
New members of the Legion of Destiny receive a free uncursed +0 suit as part of their induction equipment. Joining requires at least Strength 10 and Constitution 12 and is refused to current Arena or Order members. The gift is not automatically fully identified.[7]
Description
Wear it in the Armor slot. Its normal-damage absorption is 2; its contribution to defense is your enchantment minus 1. These are different protections: enchantment makes you harder to hit but does not increase absorption. See Defense and protection for the damage floor, burden and attacks that bypass armor.[8][9]
It has no additional worn magical power. Its familiar appearance identifies the type, but a random find can still conceal its enchantment and curse. A cursed suit sticks when worn; full identification lets you judge the individual item before that commitment.[10][11][12]
Strategy
Collect the Legion's free suit before buying armor if that is your intended career. A purchased suit costs only 20 Au and avoids the curse uncertainty of a find. Cuirbouilli has exactly the same weight, absorption and defense penalty at equal enchantment, so spending 60 Au on it buys no extra protection. A flak jacket saves 100 weight and one defense, but absorbs one point less.
Compare all body armor and shields when assembling your defenses.
