Partial plate mail is a suit of body armor with more absorption than chain mail at the same weight and defense penalty. In the infobox, p is the individual suit's enchantment.[1]
Generation
Partial plate mail can be found among randomly generated treasure, including the random possessions of treasure-bearing monsters, and may appear in Knight's Pawn Shop. A noncursed acquirement effect can create body armor; a blessed effect lets you select this type, but the resulting item's blessing and enchantment still follow its own generation rules.[2][3][4][5]
Julie's sells a fully identified, uncursed +0 suit for 900 Au.[6]
Description
Wear it in the Armor slot. Its normal-damage absorption is 5; its contribution to defense is your enchantment minus 3. These are different protections: enchantment makes you harder to hit but does not increase absorption. See Defense and protection for the damage floor, burden and attacks that bypass armor.[7][8]
It has no additional worn magical power. Its familiar appearance identifies the type, but a random find can still conceal its enchantment and curse. A cursed suit sticks when worn; full identification lets you judge the individual item before that commitment.[9][10][11]
Strategy
For 900 Au, it improves absorption over chain without adding burden. Full plate adds only one further absorption for 600 Au more, plus 200 weight and another defense penalty. Lamellar is much lighter and has a smaller defense penalty at the same absorption, but its 3000 Au purchase price makes partial plate the affordable comparison.
