Plate armor is a distinct suit of body armor with greater absorption and lower weight than full plate mail. In the infobox, p is the individual suit's enchantment.[1]
Generation
Plate armor can be found among randomly generated treasure, including the random possessions of treasure-bearing monsters, and may appear in Knight's Pawn Shop. A noncursed acquirement effect can create body armor; a blessed effect lets you select this type, but the resulting item's blessing and enchantment still follow its own generation rules.[2][3][4][5]
Julie's sells a fully identified, uncursed +0 suit for 3000 Au.[6]
Description
Wear it in the Armor slot. Its normal-damage absorption is 7; its contribution to defense is your enchantment minus 4. These are different protections: enchantment makes you harder to hit but does not increase absorption. See Defense and protection for the damage floor, burden and attacks that bypass armor.[7][8]
It has no additional worn magical power. Its familiar appearance identifies the type, but a random find can still conceal its enchantment and curse. A cursed suit sticks when worn; full identification lets you judge the individual item before that commitment.[9][10][11]
Strategy
The 3000 Au shop price buys one more absorption and 100 less weight than full plate mail, with the same defense penalty. At the same price, lamellar saves 300 weight and two defense but absorbs two less. A strong character facing physical blows may favor plate; a heavily loaded traveler may get more practical protection from retaining speed.
Compare all body armor and shields when assembling your defenses.
