Powered combat armor is weightless body armor with twenty points of ordinary-damage absorption and, when noncursed, breathing protection. In the infobox, p is the individual suit's enchantment.[1]
Generation
Powered combat armor can be found among randomly generated treasure, including the random possessions of treasure-bearing monsters, and may appear in Knight's Pawn Shop. A noncursed acquirement effect can create body armor; a blessed effect lets you select this type, but the resulting item's blessing and enchantment still follow its own generation rules.[2][3][4][5]
It is not part of Julie's fixed stock.[6]
Description
Wear it in the Armor slot. Its normal-damage absorption is 20; its contribution to defense is your enchantment with no fixed penalty. These are different protections: enchantment makes you harder to hit but does not increase absorption. See Defense and protection for the damage floor, burden and attacks that bypass armor.[7][8]
A noncursed suit provides breathing while worn. This prevents drowning and protects against the poison-cloud attack used by creatures such as the automatum minor; it is not general poison immunity.[9][10][11]
A cursed suit immediately clears existing breathing protection and makes you drown, even on dry land. Zero weight does not save you: the drowning check requires you to remove the body armor and carry no more than half your capacity. It allows only three emergency item-disposal attempts before death, and the curse obstructs ordinary removal. Dropping the backpack alone leaves the armor in place. Identify the individual suit before equipping it.[12][13][14]
The type's visible name does not reveal every copy's enchantment or curse. Its magical power can also be stripped by a mundanity effect without changing that name; being blessed is not a guarantee against every way of losing protection.[15][16]
Strategy
Its high absorption and zero added burden make a safe suit a major physical-defense upgrade. It still cannot reduce a landed ordinary hit below one HP, and elemental or draining attacks need other protection. Prismatrix trades much of that absorption for three elemental immunities; choose for the threats actually present. Fully identify powered armor before wearing it, because the cursed failure is immediate rather than a small reduction in performance.
Compare all body armor and shields when assembling your defenses.
