A wafer of lembas is food that combines nourishment, healing and cleansing. Eating one clears blindness, poison and disease, attempts substantial HP recovery, and sets your food reserve to 40. Its own blessing or curse does not alter these effects.[1]
Generation
Lembas is an item-level-2 food in ordinary random loot and possible pawn-shop stock. Noncursed acquirement can produce food; a blessed use lets you choose lembas. A countryside random event also gives you one after describing the discovery of athelas and the preparation of a cake. That event does not require a herbalism skill check.[2]
Description
| Effect | Result |
|---|---|
| Healing | If below normal maximum HP + 10, adds 1–100 HP; any resulting value above the normal maximum becomes maximum + 10 |
| Blindness | Cleared even if no HP is gained |
| Poison and disease | Both cleared completely |
| Food reserve | Set to 40, not increased by 40 or 48 |
| Cursed equipment | Unchanged; this cleansing does not uncurse equipment |
The healing roll is not guaranteed to refill a severely injured character. If you already have at least maximum HP + 10, the healing step leaves your HP unchanged. The meal can reduce a reserve above 40, but it cannot itself cause overeating.[3]
Eat consumes one wafer. Lembas has a special eating effect, so an ordinary hungry creature does not accept it through the normal feeding response. Its high value can still matter to a greedy recipient, which evaluates gifts differently.[4]
Strategy
Keep lembas as a combined emergency remedy when injury, poison or disease may accompany hunger. It treats more conditions in one meal than an ordinary ration, and its fixed food reserve avoids the overfilling risk of a nutritab. Do not rely on it to repair attribute damage or free cursed equipment: those are separate problems.
When only hunger is at issue, using cheaper food preserves this versatile remedy. In town, Tullimore Dew can clear poison and disease for 10 Au when available, while lembas is portable and also supplies healing and food.[5]
