An evil fairy is a hostile flying creature whose conversation destroys and curses possessions, puts the player to sleep and summons enemies. It looks like a good fairy, using the same name and yellow-on-white f.[2]

Generation

Evil fairies occur in ordinary random pools and the Volcano's special table. They start hostile, move randomly and carry no possessions. They fly, are immune to fire, cold and sleep, and have one defensive action but no ordinary attack.[3]

Dangerous conversation

Talking causes all of the following in sequence:

Effect Result and relevant protection
Item destruction Destroys one item from a random accessible inventory slot, when a suitable slot exists
Curse Reduces the blessing of an item in a random slot by two; not every possession at once
Sleep Attempts sleep for 2–9 minute-status checks; sleep immunity prevents it
Summons Four attempts to place randomly selected hostile monsters on free floor beside the player

The fairy does not vanish after this dialogue, and talking again can repeat the sequence. Sleep immunity only blocks the sleep, not the item effects or summoning.[4]

The same conversation changes its movement to intelligent pursuit and gives it a special theft ability. The thief-style theft can operate even if the creature becomes peaceful. It also receives a poison melee type, but its action sequence still has only a defense, so this does not create an actual ordinary poison attack.[5]

Remains and strategy

Normal death has a 50% chance to leave poisonous evil fairy dust. Eating it attempts to add 5–24 poison counts without providing food. It has no alchemical transformation.[6]

Avoid treating every fairy conversation as a free wish. Before being spoken to, the evil fairy has no ordinary damaging attack or active special ability; conversation creates most of its danger. Physical damage and electricity avoid its fire-and-cold immunities, while sleep does not disable it. After conversation, protect valuable unused inventory from theft and account for the newly summoned enemies.
