Boots of leather are the mundane footwear type. They have no magical equipment effect and do not add a general armor bonus. Their appearance is randomized, so an unidentified pair that looks like ordinary footwear may actually be another kind of boots.[1]
Generation
They are repeatable item-level-0 boots in random items and monster possessions, pawn-shop stock and acquirement. Ordinary copies begin at +0 with the same blessing roll and appearance pool as magical boots.[2]
Description and strategy
Wearing leather boots gives no Def, Arm, haste, jumping or levitation bonus. Blessing does not add a power, and enchantment does not turn their pluses into a general armor rating. A cursed pair has no special harmful power but still becomes stuck under ordinary equipment rules.[3]
Once identified, their low base value and lack of a native benefit make them a low priority to carry or enhance. Prefer a useful noncursed pair when available. There is no need to occupy the Boots slot just to fill it, especially if doing so risks a curse that later prevents using speed, levitation or seven league boots.
