A mirror master is a fast flying sleep attacker that can create false images and occasionally summon a real copy. It is distinct from the lower-level mirrorshade, whose ordinary form only produces images.[2]
Generation
Mirror masters belong to ordinary random-monster pools and a dedicated Astral Plane selection. An ordinary specimen has no fixed item and zero through four random possessions. Real copies created by the mirror ability use ordinary construction and can therefore carry their own random possessions.[3]
Copies and sleep
When the mirror special action runs with the player in view, its ordinary level-seven form has a 5% chance to attempt a real hostile duplicate on an unoccupied floor square beside the player. Otherwise it draws up to five false symbol images near itself. Those display images do not create creatures. The 5% is conditional on the special-action call, not a chance per player command.[4]
The master makes two physical attacks, each with a raw 0–9 roll. Each successful hit has a 70% chance to attempt sleep for two through fifteen counts. Sleep immunity prevents it; already active sleep is not extended by this routine. A count normally expires at each game-minute status check, and sleeping removes ordinary player actions. Damage reduction or displacement does not cancel the separate sleep check.[5]
It opens doors, flies, and is immune to magic damage, but has no innate physical, elemental or sleep immunity. It has no ranged attack, defensive action or food/gift pacification response.[6]
Remains and strategy
Normal death drops possessions and has a 50% chance to leave shards of glass. These are inedible and have no alchemical transformation.[7]
Remove its modest 50 HP before repeated special actions produce real copies. Sleep immunity answers the disabling melee rider, while ordinary weapons and elemental attacks can damage it. Sleep itself can affect the master. Do not infer the mirrorshade's three-element immunity or life drain from their shared mirror behavior.
