A mirrorshade is a life-draining creature that displays false copies of its symbol. Unlike a mirror master, its ordinary level is too low for the shared mirror ability to create a real duplicate.[2]
Generation
Mirrorshades belong to ordinary random-monster pools. They are initially hostile and carry no ordinary possessions.[3]
Touch and false images
The mirrorshade makes three melee attacks, each with a raw 0–29 physical damage roll followed by life drain of strength five. Negative-energy immunity stops the drain. Otherwise each successful hit can remove five character levels or reduce strength and constitution by five, with either attribute below three causing death. Preventing direct damage through absorption or displacement does not itself stop the rider.[4]
When its mirror ability runs with the player in view, it draws up to five apparent copies within six squares of itself. These are display images, not additional creatures with attacks or possessions. Its level-five form cannot pass the shared ability's real-copy check, which requires a level greater than six plus a random zero through nineteen.[5]
It opens doors and is immune to fire, cold and electricity, but not physical damage, poison or sleep. It is not intangible and has no ranged attack, defensive action or ordinary food/gift pacification response.[6]
Remains and strategy
Normal death has a 50% chance to leave some broken glass. It is inedible and has no alchemical transformation.[7]
Ordinary weapons or applicable disabling effects address this creature better than the three elements, which it resists completely. Its ordinary 40 HP is modest, but three life-draining attacks make a prolonged unprotected melee dangerous. Keep track of the real creature rather than treating every displayed copy as another enemy. Its copies are a distraction; the real touch is the main threat.
