A ring of strength changes current Strength while worn. A noncursed ring adds absolute enchantment plus one; a cursed ring subtracts that amount instead. It does not increase maximum Strength.[1]
Generation
It is an item-level-1 random ring, available in ordinary loot, pawn-shop stock and acquirement. Ordinary noncursed copies start at +1 or higher, and cursed copies at -2 or lower, with a shuffled appearance.[2]
Ambrosias converts behemoth's gonads into a blessed +7 ring for 100 Au. Its worn contribution is eight Strength, not seven. This recipe does not mean a living behemoth carries the ring.[3]
Description
| Enchantment | Noncursed contribution | Cursed contribution |
|---|---|---|
| +0 | +1 Strength | -1 Strength |
| +1 or -1 | +2 Strength | -2 Strength |
| +2 or -2 | +3 Strength | -3 Strength |
| +7 or -7 | +8 Strength | -8 Strength |
Blessing determines the sign of the contribution; the absolute enchantment determines its size. Stronger positive blessing adds no further Strength by itself. Equipping identifies the type, but does not provide full knowledge of the copy's curse or enchantment.[4]
Strength affects carrying capacity and the Strength component of ordinary weapon damage. The capacity formula is Strength × Agility × 10, while weapon damage uses a stat modifier, so each point of Strength is not automatically one extra damage. Heroism additionally adds current Strength to damage. The ring does not directly raise Defense or armor absorption.[5]
Separate strength rings add their contributions. Removing a ring normally reverses its current contribution. Because this changes the current attribute directly, effects that reset Strength, or damage that changes the enchantment while worn, can make the later result differ from a simple temporary bonus. Item damage can reduce positive enchantment without first withdrawing the old contribution; this source-level interaction has not been tested in play.[6]
Strategy
Use the ring for carrying capacity or Strength-dependent attacks, especially when its extra capacity removes a burden penalty. The behemoth recipe offers a large, known positive contribution, but obtaining its ingredient requires dealing with the creature. An early ordinary noncursed +1 copy still adds two Strength.
Further enchantment improves the useful bonus but risks an explosion as positive enchantment rises; a +7 ring is already well beyond the safe +1 check. Identify curse status before wearing a copy: a highly enchanted cursed ring imposes a large penalty and cannot be removed normally. If ordinary damage absorption is the goal, compare a ring of protection instead.[7]
