A potion of quenching thirst is an inert potion. Its reassuring name does not make it a food source or a remedy for another condition.[1]
Generation
It is an item-level-0 member of the ordinary random-potion pool. Acquirement can produce it, but it is excluded from the pawn shop's ordinary generated stock because its value is zero. It still receives a random container appearance and ordinary random enchantment when constructed.[2][3][4][5][6]
Description
Drinking consumes one potion without changing HP, food, attributes or status, and without identifying its type. Blessing, curse and enchantment do not give it an active effect. Its cursed identified name is Antinomy!, which likewise does not create a different power.
This is not NetHack's water used for dipping or making holy water. The normal Omega item operations do not turn this inert potion into a general-purpose alchemical ingredient. Ambrosias' transformations start from specific monster remains instead.[7][8]
Strategy
Discard a known copy when weight or accessible inventory space matters. It has no useful base sale value, so spending identification or blessing solely to sell or improve it is unproductive.
An unknown drink producing no obvious benefit is not enough to identify this type. A curing potion used while healthy or a cursed alertness potion can also appear ineffective. Establish type knowledge through identification or Jane's guide instead of assuming every uneventful bottle quenches thirst.
