A scroll of light lights a suitable dark room and can give the reader temporary personal illumination. Its usefulness depends on where it is read, not simply on whether the player wishes to see farther.[1]
Generation
It belongs to the item-level-0 random scroll pool. The pawn shop and acquirement are additional sources. Ambrosias transforms murk cloud particles or shadowstuff into a blessed light scroll; using the ordinary component values, these transformations cost 20 Au each.[2][3][4][5][6]
Description
If the player is in a recognized room that is currently dark, a noncursed reading spreads room light and adds 3 + blessing strength illumination units. Personal illumination normally expires through the ten-minute status updates. The changed room lighting is a separate result, not just the personal timer.
In an already lit room, the scroll only produces a glow message and adds no personal illumination. In locations outside the recognized-room condition, it gives a brief glimmer with no lasting light. A cursed copy darkens an eligible lit room; in an already dark room or unsuitable location, it has no useful effect. Every reading identifies the type.[7][8][9]
Strategy
Use it inside a dark room you intend to search or fight in. Reading in a corridor merely to obtain a portable light can waste the scroll. Do not assume a torch supplies reliable portable light in 0.90.4: source inspection finds that ordinary hand placement fails to enable its illumination effect, while activation can reduce existing illumination.[10]
Blessing lengthens the personal illumination only when the room-lighting branch succeeds. It does not make every location eligible. A known cursed scroll can deliberately darken an eligible room, but darkness is not invisibility, and this action is not a general defense against attacks. See clairvoyance for remote terrain revelation instead of lighting.
