A sleepgas-trap component sets a sleep-gas trap. Its pressurized cannister appearance is shared with the acid component.[1]
Generation
It can appear as item-level-0 random miscellaneous loot, pawn-shop stock, or through acquirement. Disarming a sleep-gas trap can yield an identified copy through the component recovery check.[2]
Setting and effect
Activate an identified component on ordinary, effect-free floor to install a hidden trap and consume it. An invalid position wastes the component; an unknown component on valid floor causes a trap accident.[3]
A triggering monster without sleep immunity is put to sleep. For the player, the trap applies sleep at strength floor(D/5) + 1, where D is local difficulty. Sleep immunity prevents it, and a player already asleep does not receive an extension from this routine. The gas does not deal direct HP damage.[4]
Strategy
Sleep can create time to leave, but nearby or damaged monsters can wake again under their ordinary behavior rules. Check sleep immunity as well as flight and intangibility before planning a trap. Do not assume an unidentified canister is harmless gas; its acid counterpart threatens both HP and equipment. A staff of sleep offers a different way to apply sleep without laying a floor trap.
