A snare component is a coil of fine wire used to immobilize creatures with a snare trap. It causes no direct damage.[1]
Generation
It is an item-level-0 random miscellaneous item, possible pawn-shop stock, and an acquirement choice. Disarming a snare can recover an identified component; success at disarming does not guarantee recovery.[2]
Setting and effect
Activate an identified component on ordinary, effect-free floor to create a hidden snare under you. The component is consumed. Unknown components instead cause an accident on valid floor, and invalid positions waste the component.[3]
A grounded, tangible monster that triggers a snare loses its ability to move, without a built-in expiry timer. It can still act from that position. An unmounted player instead makes an Agility check; failure adds local difficulty to immobilization. A mount steps clear of the snare.[4]
Strategy
A snare can separate a melee pursuer from you without depending on its HP or physical immunity. Immobilization is not silence or sleep: a trapped enemy may still shoot or cast spells, and adjacent attacks remain dangerous. Plan to withdraw after setting it; revealed traps and flying targets can defeat the lure.
