The great-axe has the highest base damage of the twenty ordinary melee weapons in this batch. In Omega 0.90.4 it delivers base damage 24, but weighs 100 and requires both hands.[1]
Generation and appearance
It is a common level-5 random weapon. Goblin chieftains carry great-axes, providing an additional source. Its unidentified, identified, and cursed names are all great-axe.[2][3][4][5]
Data and mechanics
A great-axe weighs 100, grants +7 hit, and has a base value of 200 Au. It has fragility 15. It must occupy both the ready and weapon hands before its combat bonuses apply.[1][3][6]
Effects and interactions
Its standard cut adds Strength-based damage, and it can lunge. The great-axe can be thrown or used to tunnel, but cannot riposte. A cursed copy is especially restrictive because both hands remain occupied until the curse is removed.[7][8][9]
Strategy
Choose the great-axe for maximum damage per landed hit. The great-sword has the same +7 hit and two-hand cost but deals 4 less damage while saving 25 weight; a katana deals 8 less damage but grants 3 more hit and preserves the ready hand. The great-axe is strongest when carrying capacity and accuracy are already comfortable.[10][7][8][9]
