The quarterstaff is an accurate two-handed striking weapon in Omega 0.90.4. It grants +12 hit and base damage 9, but weighs 80 and occupies both hands.[1]
Generation and appearance
It is a common level-1 random weapon and may also appear in pawn-shop stock or through weapon acquirement. Its displayed name remains quarterstaff in every identification and BUC state.[2][3][4][5]
Data and mechanics
A quarterstaff has a base value of 30 Au and fragility 15. It must occupy both the ready and weapon hands before its +12 hit and base damage 9 apply. Random BUC determines whether its initial plus is positive, nonnegative, or negative.[1][3][6]
Effects and interactions
Its standard strike adds Strength-based damage and it can lunge. It cannot riposte. The quarterstaff may be thrown and avoids the special tunneling damage check because it is a striking weapon. A cursed readied copy locks both hands until uncursed.[7][8][9]
Strategy
The quarterstaff's accuracy is good, but its hand and weight costs are severe for damage 9. A short sword is 55 lighter, one-handed, only 1 less accurate, and only 1 lower in damage; a hand-axe is similarly efficient. Use the quarterstaff when plus makes it clearly superior or when a highly accurate striking tool is specifically valuable.[10][7][8][9]
