A cloak of invisibility is a cloak that sustains invisibility when worn noncursed. It can disrupt pursuit and ordinary ranged attacks, but does not make the wearer untouchable. Its cursed form retains the same name and grants vulnerability instead.[1]
Generation
It is a repeatable item-level-5 cloak in random generation and monster possessions, also available through the pawn shop and acquirement. Ordinary copies start at +0 and use the shared random appearance and blessing rules.[2]
Ambrosias can make blessed copies from the following remains for 400 Au. These are transformation products, not fixed cloaks carried by those monsters.[3]
| Ingredient | Result |
|---|---|
| Essence of air elemental | Blessed +6 cloak of invisibility |
| Dead slayer, from an invisible slayer | Blessed +9 cloak of invisibility |
Description
Equipping a noncursed cloak adds sustained invisibility and records the type as known. Removal subtracts the equipment contribution from the shared invisibility status. As with other worn cloak effects, this normally lasts while worn; enchantment does not increase its strength.[4]
An invisible player fails the visibility condition for the ordinary nonadjacent monster-strike branch. Several movement routines, including simple pursuit, spirit movement and fluttering, switch to random movement when the player is invisible. Adjacent monsters can still enter melee, and invisibility is not a universal veto on special powers. Do not mistake disrupted pursuit for a safe adjacent square.[5]
A cursed copy adds vulnerability instead of invisibility. This specifically makes the nearby night gaunt's abduction condition succeed whenever that special-power check runs; it is not a general damage multiplier. The cloak does not clear invisibility supplied by another source, so observing that you are invisible does not establish that the cloak is safe.[6]
Strategy
Use invisibility to make distance and obstruct pursuit, while keeping a retreat available when an enemy closes into melee. For surviving repeated adjacent life-draining attacks, negimmunity addresses a danger that invisibility does not; displacement instead adds a chance to avoid qualifying melee damage.
The alchemical +6 and +9 cloaks provide the same invisibility as an uncursed +0 copy. Their extra enchantment is useful as an item-damage buffer, not stronger concealment. Check curse state through identification, since the cursed name offers no warning and wearing it can lock the slot.
