A humongous emerald is a light, valuable miscellaneous item, initially appearing as a large green gem. Despite its name, it weighs only 10 and has no activated power.[1]
Generation
An emerald can appear as an item-level-1 random miscellaneous item, in pawn-shop stock, or through acquirement. Its generation level is lower than that of the other three dedicated valuables, making it eligible for favorable level checks earlier.[2]
Value and use
The sale prices below assume a noncursed copy; both buyers refuse cursed items.
The base value is 1,500 Au. Once its type is known, the pawn shop pays 750 Au per copy and the guild fence pays 1,000 Au. An unknown copy is appraised at only 1 Au before the buyer's discount. Identification matters; blessing and enchantment do not change the true value.[3]
Treasure-seeking creatures evaluate its full value when it is given to them, independently of your identification. It is not a substitute for a specifically requested quest object.[4]
Strategy
An emerald provides 150 Au of base value per weight unit: a better carrying return than diamonds or a gold ingot. Its early generation level makes identification of a green gem especially worthwhile. Bearer bonds are more compact still, but are higher-level loot.
