A gold ingot is a heavy valuable with a base value of 1,750 Au. It is an inventory object, not spendable cash, even though its unidentified name already says what it is.[1]

Generation

Gold ingots are item-level-4 random miscellaneous items. They can also appear in pawn-shop stock or be selected through acquirement. Ordinary generation copies the neutral template.[2]

Value and use

The sale prices below assume a noncursed copy; both buyers refuse cursed items.

The ingot has no activation effect. Sell it to turn it into money: the pawn shop pays 875 Au for an identified copy, and the guild fence quotes 1,166 Au for one. Formal identification still matters despite the obvious appearance; an unknown miscellaneous item is appraised at only 1 Au. Neither blessing nor enchantment raises the ingot's true value.[3]

The ingot can also serve as a valuable gift. A creature using the treasure rules sees its full real value, whether or not you have identified it.[4]

Strategy

At weight 200, the ingot gives only 8.75 Au of base value per weight unit. Diamonds, emeralds and bearer bonds are all far more efficient. Carry it when the return trip is short or capacity is ample; when overloaded, its impressive name is a poor reason to discard lighter valuables instead.
