An immunotab is a medicinal tablet which works only when blessed. A blessed tablet grants infection immunity and performs curing; an unblessed or cursed tablet has no beneficial effect. None provides nourishment.[1]
Generation
Immunotabs are item-level-3 random food, possible in ordinary loot and pawn-shop stock. Normal food generation leaves them unblessed. Even choosing an immunotab through blessed acquirement identifies the item without blessing it. Obtain a positive blessing separately before expecting the medicine to work.[2]
Its small gray tablet appearance is shared with stimtabs, powtabs and nutritabs. Identification and blessing answer different questions: knowing that it is an immunotab does not activate an unblessed copy.[3]
Description
| State | Result when eaten |
|---|---|
| Blessed with strength B greater than zero | Adds infection immunity; clears disease and blindness; removes 5 + 10B poison counts, down to zero |
| Unblessed | Consumed without those effects |
| Cursed | Consumed without those effects; does not inflict a reversed disease effect |
Infection immunity prevents ordinary disease applications. The curing step also handles disease already present, which immunity alone would not remove. This is not poison immunity, and a weakly blessed tablet may leave a severe poisoning partly active. It does not restore HP.[4]
The immunity gain has no timer attached by the tablet. Repeated blessed tablets add further immunity contributions, but immunity already prevents ordinary infection once its total is positive. Effects which directly assign disease can bypass that protection; the green village-stone result is one example.[5]
Strategy
The valuable result is a blessed tablet's continuing disease protection plus immediate curing. Prepare it before exposure; consuming an ordinary freshly generated tablet simply wastes it. A blessing effect can make an unblessed copy useful, subject to that effect's usual rules.[6]
For an immediate cure without preparing a blessing, known lembas clears all poison and disease and also heals. An immunotab instead supplies infection protection for future ordinary exposures. Neither role makes it emergency rations.
