Draft:Village stones
The village stones are magical sites in the six villages of LOCUS. Three can raise attribute maxima through a hazardous sequence; the others exchange experience, life or item powers for different effects. These are fixed terrain sites, not portable equipment.[1]
Attribute stones
The Lawstone in Star View, Chaos stone in Stormwatch and Mindstone in Thaumaris affect maximum Constitution, Strength and Intelligence respectively. Touch the first two; at the Mindstone, decline the offer to look away. A successful cycle raises the relevant maximum by up to ten, normally capped at 30. It does not raise the current attribute, and a maximum already above 30 is not reduced.[2]
Each stone remembers a separate progress value. Touching adds 0-3; lawful alignment adds another 0-3 at the Lawstone, and chaotic alignment does so at the Chaos stone. Other alignments can still use either stone. Even values through 40 produce a harmless grey glow without the extra step; odd values produce the events below and then advance one step. Events may be skipped, so this is not a fixed checklist that every visitor experiences.[3]
| Progress | Glow / event | Consequence |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black | Destroys everything in the backpack |
| 3 | Microwave | Hostile dispelling |
| 5 | Infrared | Summons a creature |
| 7 | Brick red | Adds 1 Au |
| 9 | Cherry red | Beneficial augmentation |
| 11 | Orange | Mana storm with randomly chosen strength, up to maximum HP |
| 13 | Lemon yellow | Berserk status |
| 15 | Yellow | Frightening message without the threatened poison |
| 17 | Chartreuse | Current Agility -3 |
| 19 | Green | Disease, current HP set to 1, current Dexterity -5 |
| 21 | Forest green | Hero status |
| 23 | Cyan | Uncontrolled world teleportation |
| 25 | Blue | A hint |
| 27 | Navy blue | Identification and knowledge |
| 29 | Blue-violet | Forgets the first known spell in the spell list |
| 31 | Violet | Acquirement |
| 33 | Deep purple | Invisibility |
| 35 | Ultraviolet | 0 to maximum HP minus one electrical damage |
| 37 | Roentgen | (character level + 1) times 250 experience |
| 39 | Gamma | Enchantment and blessing |
| 41-49 | Cosmic | Successful attribute-maximum increase; progress becomes 50 |
| 50 or more | Polka-dot | Resets that stone's progress and teleports you uncontrollably |
The table describes the stone's chosen effect; protections, selected objects and the individual magic routines can further affect the outcome.[3]
Leaving and returning can rebuild the village and remove a summoned threat, but it does not reset the stone's progress. Stop after the cosmic glow unless prepared for the next touch's teleport. Remove valuable backpack contents from danger before starting, while also remembering that loose objects left in the village will not survive its reconstruction.[4][3]
Balance, sacrifice and void
| Site | Main exchange | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Balancestone | One quarter of experience for neutrality and controlled world travel | Strong alignment can instead cause immediate random displacement |
| Sacrifice stone | Current and maximum HP for Power or experience | Loss doubles each round; staying too long kills |
| Voidstone | Clears mana and status effects, and strips accessible items | Backpack untouched; equipment powers can be lost while special attacks remain |
These sites have their own immediate interactions; they do not use the colored attribute-stone cycle.[5]
Strategy and older advice
Attribute growth is the reward for accepting substantial losses, not a safe early training service. Prepare healing, disease treatment, electrical protection and a route back from teleportation; consider the cost of forgotten spells and ruined equipment as well as HP. Reaching a higher maximum still leaves current attributes to be restored by a suitable recovery effect.
A. Light's older spoiler compilation recommends repeated stone use and describes leaving a village to remove a dangerous summoned creature. Its assignment of the opaline Intelligence stone to Whorfen does not match 0.90.4: the current Mindstone is in Thaumaris. The compilation's document version does not establish the executable version for each piece of advice.[6][7]
