A nutritab is concentrated food which adds 36 food points at a weight of only one. It provides the most nourishment per unit of weight among the sixteen ordinary food types, but a partly full character can easily overeat it.[1]
Generation and appearance
Nutritabs are item-level-3 random food, possible in pawn-shop stock and through noncursed acquirement. A blessed acquisition lets you choose the type. Ordinary copies are unblessed.[2]
The appearance small gray tablet is shared with stimtabs, powtabs and immunotabs. Only the nutritab is an ordinary nourishing meal; the other three cannot be substituted when starving.[3]
Description
Eat consumes one tablet and adds 36 reserve points, clamping a negative result to zero. Its ordinary eating effect is unchanged by blessing or cursing. It does not grant the other tablets' Strength, mana or immunity effects.[4]
To avoid vomiting, start at reserve 12 or below. The status display's Ravenous and Weak ranges are safe, but Hungry covers 11–20 and is not a reliable guarantee. If a meal exceeds 48, your reserve becomes 12 instead, wasting much of the tablet's value.[5]
A hungry non-horse creature can accept it as normal food, subject to the usual gift priorities. It provides no better pacification result than a cheap ordinary meal.[6]
Strategy
Nutritabs are excellent travelling reserves when weight matters. Use smaller meals for modest top-ups and keep the tablet for a genuinely low reserve. Identify gray tablets before leaving dependable supplies; the compact appearance alone cannot tell you whether you are carrying food or medicine.
