The warp is a spell for immediate travel to a selected dungeon depth. It can reach an unexplored intermediate floor, but cannot directly select the deepest floor of a dungeon.[1]
Learning
The warp belongs to the common random research and Knowledge-wish pools, and is taught by identified Kolwynia.[2]
Effects
After the initial 50 mana cost, the spell works only when you are in the currently active dungeon. It prompts for a numbered depth. Valid destinations start at 1 and stop one floor before the dungeon's maximum. Previously unexplored floors are allowed; arrival uses the normal level-change placement.[1]
| Dungeon | Selectable depths | Excluded deepest floor |
|---|---|---|
| Goblin Caves | 1–9 | 10 |
| Sewers | 1–17 | 18 |
| Archmage's Castle | 1–15 | 16 |
| HellWell Volcano | 1–19 | 20 |
| Astral Plane | 1–4 | 5 |
These limits follow the dungeon depth constants and the spell's strict upper bound.[3]
An out-of-range depth deflects you to a random legal depth. Escape at the depth prompt also causes deflection, rather than cancelling: the numeric input returns a negative value and the spell treats it as invalid. A blank entry similarly produces zero. Cancel at the earlier spell-selection prompt if you do not want to cast. Outside the active dungeon, the spell has no travel effect and does not refund the mana.[4]
Changing levels clears an established sanctuary, even when the requested depth matches the current one.[5]
Strategy
Use the warp for deliberate travel between intermediate floors or an immediate retreat to depth 1. It is much more expensive initially than Return, but does not wait for Return's countdown and is not limited to the first/deepest-visited pair.
For a deepest-floor objective, warp to the preceding floor and use the normal route onward. Skipping unexplored floors can expose you to stronger enemies before your equipment and supplies are ready. Never use an invalid number as an escape cancellation: it chooses a new destination for you.
